The clinical and management team are supported by our excellent reception and administrative team, who are here to advise you on information about the practice and its services and how to see the doctor or nurse.

RECRUITMENT AT THE PRACTICE

You may be aware, from the media, of the difficulties and pressure faced by general practice in the current climate, particularly with regards to recruitment of GP’s into the profession.  Unfortunately, we have not managed to escape this difficulty, you may be aware that for approximately 18 months we have been continuing in our efforts to recruit a GP partner to join our practice, and disappointingly we haven’t managed to be successful in our efforts.

As an example of how the practice has grown, and with it the pressure on the Partners, when Dr Golton joined the practice some 25 years ago, we had 3 full time partners looking after 4700 patients, we currently have just under 7500 registered patients and 2.5 full time partners.

The partners have an excellent team, with wonderful support from our salaried and regular locum GP’s.  However, there will, at some point in the future be retirement from within the current partnership and without succession there will need to be changes to the way the practice is run and managed.  We will of course keep you informed, via our practice website, noticeboards and through our newly formed Patient Participation Group.

Whilst we endeavour to meet the needs of our patients, we sincerely hope that you can understand why it may not always be possible to see the doctor of your choice and why we have had to make changes to way we offer appointments.

OUR APPOINTMENT SYSTEM

We provide 510 regular doctor appointments per week, in addition we provide appointments for those patients working full time (Commuter Clinics) & telephone call appointments.

We are pleased to say we offer more doctor appointments per week than is considered appropriate by NHS England.

Clinics are split as follows:

Special clinics i.e:

  •    joint doctor/nurse diabetic clinics
  •    cryotherapy clinics
  •    minor ops clinics
  •    post-natal check clinics
  •    Commuter clinics for patients who work and are unable to attend during core hours  ie: 8am – 6.30

Doctor appointments are arranged as follows:

  •    bookable in advance
  •    bookable on the day
  •    urgent on the day
  •    telephone calls

Doctor appointments are 10 minutes long, and whilst every effort is made to deal with every concern you may present with, there may be occasions you may be asked to rebook to discuss less urgent concerns.

Between morning & afternoon clinic, our doctors will be completing home visits, they will also have test results & clinical letters to check and action, and in addition referral letters to dictate.  If you have requested a telephone call from a doctor, please be aware that the doctor will need to prioritize his or her workload according to medical need.

You can book appointments for the doctor by:

  •    Telephone, anytime for a pre-bookable appointment
  •    Telephone, at 8am for an on the day appointment
  •    In person
  •    On-Line

Nursing, HCA & Phlebotomist

We offer 304 nursing appointments per week, plus appointments to see the Healthcare Assistant & Phlebotomist (blood taker).  Our Healthcare Assistants will see patients requiring the following procedures:

  •    Blood Pressure check
  •    ECG
  •    Height/Weight
  •    NHS Healthchecks & New Patient Healthchecks
  •    INR Test
  •    Simple Dressings
  •    Urine Analysis

We are pleased to say we offer more nursing appointments per week than is considered appropriate by NHS England.

Nurse clinics are generally ‘free for all’ ie: not special clinics, with the exception of diabetic clinics, these weekly clinics are a joint clinic with either Dr Davies or Dr Golton.

Nurse appointments are booked depending on the procedure required and the length of time the procedure may take, please do not be offended if the receptionist asks why you are seeing the nurse and advises whether another healthcare professional may be more appropriate.

FLU VACCINATION

Are you over 65 or in one of the groups at risk of developing influenza?

Flu vaccinations are available at either surgery from September to February, please make an appointment with one of our reception team.

SHINGLES VACCINATION

Are you aged between 70 & 79 (born after 1st September 1942) and not yet had the shingles vaccine?

Vaccination is available at either surgery, protect yourself from the pain of shingles and make an appointment with one of our reception team.

ELECTRONIC PRESCRIPTIONS

Are you aware that the practice offers an electronic prescription service, where your prescription request is sent directly to the pharmacy of your choice?

Are you aware you can also request your prescription using our on-line facility?

Please speak to one of the reception team to register for either or both of the above.

We do request that you please allow 3 working days for us to process all prescription requests.

BIRTHDAY MONTH REVIEW – For long term medical conditions

If you have had a birthday since April, you may have already received a letter inviting you to your annual review.

We are now inviting you in annually, during your birthday month to attend for a blood test followed, a week or two later, by an appointment with the doctor or practice nurse to review your medical condition and medication.

If you have reviews at the hospital, we may still need to see you in the surgery.

PARKING AT ROTHERFIELD SURGERY

We realise that parking at both sites can be tricky to say the least, but we would like to politely remind patients that access to Court Meadow (at the top of the car park) must be clear at all times.

In addition, please refrain from parking alongside the fence adjacent to the field, as this land is not owned by the partners of the practice and you do risk receiving a parking ticket from the owners of the land.

LEAGUE OF FRIENDS

We are sure that many of you have attended the events organised by our League of Friends but are even more sure that many, many of you will have benefited from the medical equipment the Friends have provided.

Since 2006 money raised through various fund raising events has provided essential medical  equipment costing over £40,000.

Please see the noticeboards in each surgery or check the website for the latest League of Friends events.

If you would like more information on the wonderful work of the Friends please contact Andrew Fermor, Friends Chairman on 01892 852645.

PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP

Did you know we have recently formed a Patient Participation Group?

The aim of a PPG is to develop a positive and constructive relationship between patients, the practice and the community it serves, feeding back patient views and suggestions for improving, changing and developing patient services.  The PPG will also provide comment on practice and Clinical Commissioning Group proposals for service change and development.

The next meeting is due to held at Rotherfield surgery on Wednesday 11th October 2017 at 8.15pm.  If you are interested in joining our PPG please contact Bob Ely, PPG Chair on 01892 852659 or Ann Cooke, PPG Secretary via email annco1954@gmail.com
